Brittany + Galen: Sun-soaked Wedding Day at the Wildflower Center
Wedding: May 13, 2017
Ceremony & reception: Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, Austin
Honeymoon: Tokyo and Bali
In the fall of 2010, Brittany Barnes was a Spurs Sweetheart for the Silver Spurs organization at the University of Texas, where she met fellow Spur Galen Blumenthal. The two quickly became inseparable: They went to tailgates, ate breakfast tacos and spent many nights studying together at the Perry-Castañeda Library. On a trip to Chicago for Galen’s birthday in January 2016, he suggested they have pre-birthday dinner drinks with his best friend (and best-man-to-be). After handing his friend his phone to take a photo, Galen spread rose petals around himself and Brittany and asked her to marry him. They had an intimate wedding of 150 people at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center with minimal décor, so the breathtaking beauty of the venue could shine through. One of Galen’s best friends from childhood officiated for an extra-personal touch, then guests danced the night away to everything from Billy Joel and Frank Sinatra to Garth Brooks and Old Crow Medicine Show. Another special touch was the Champagne wall: a wall of greenery with a bell on it that guests could ring to receive a glass of Champagne from a white-gloved hand reaching through an opening. During the last song, a confetti cannon went off to announce that the dreamy day was coming to a close.
