Ceremony & reception: Pecan Springs Ranch, Austin
Honeymoon: Aruba, Antigua, Barbados, Bonaire, Grenada and St. Lucia
Katie Sawyer and Clayton Buchanan met during their very first week at Dallas Baptist University. He developed a huge crush on her right away, but Katie needed a little more convincing. Soon, though, she fell for him too, thanks to his strength of character, charm, their shared religious beliefs, the way he always knew how to make her laugh—and the simple fact that they had a ton of fun together. Clayton proposed in a riverside park in Dallas after setting a beautiful scene with a picnic blanket, flowers and a scrapbook of all their favorite memories. The couple wanted their wedding day to be true to their personalities—classy but not too fancy. They decided upon a theme their planner called “Minimalist Romance at the Ranch,” which incorporated subtle hints of pink, lots of greenery, wood textures and candles. For elements of fun, they designed coffee mugs with their wedding date and had a Polaroid guest book. They also displayed photos from their childhood, along with their parents’ and grandparents’ wedding photos. Though theirs was a winter wedding, the wedding day was a perfect 75 degrees. A sign at the ceremony read, “It was always you,” which the couple felt was perfect for their story: While Katie might have been slow to fall for Clayton, he knew all along that they were perfect for each other.
