Rain was forecast on the wedding day, but the sun came out for their laid-back, relaxed event.
Rachel & David: Wedding Day Turned New Year's Eve Bash
Wedding: December 31, 2016
Ceremony: La Hacienda, Dripping Springs
Reception: Memory Lane Event Center, Dripping Springs
Honeymoon: Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
Rachel Taylor met David Bates at a Mardi Gras party in his hometown of Galveston while the two were in college, and the two were immediately drawn to one another. On Christmas, 8 years later, David surprised Rachel by having her parents come in for the occasion and he proposed to her on Christmas morning in front of both sets of parents. Their rehearsal dinner had a Mardi Gras theme to pay tribute to their first meeting. The ceremony was a moving celebration of their love, and the reception was a full-out New Year’s Eve bash. Carrying on the New Year’s theme, the main wedding color was gold, and the couple entered to Bruno Mars’ song “24k Magic.” A popcorn bar featured a sign that read “Let’s pop into the new year!” Everyone was given New Years’ hats and favors, and guests surprised the bride, whose favorite city is New Orleans, by doing a “second line” to “When the Saints Go Marching In,” a New Orleans tradition where people follow a band around dancing parade-style. There was a Champagne toast at midnight, followed by a midnight snack of breakfast tacos, and the night ended with a fireworks show to ring in the new year.
